Minimum Requirements: Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to six (6) years in fields related to Sales/Marketing utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities related directly to the duties listed below. Must be flexible with hours and work outside the normal 8:00 am - 5:00 pm time frame for travel and special projects on an as-needed basis.
Duties Prospects & researches to find new group business that would have a high chance of booking Virginia Beach and its related venues for meeting business. Plans and executes sales strategy on prospects and assigned markets maximizing chance of successfully closing sale for overnight group business in the City of Virginia Beach; specifically manages convention sales for military reunion market and association groups utilizing under 100 rooms on peak; assists in the research and development of sales leads and the planning of sales trips to identify viable prospects and ensure that they are pursued in a manner that makes optimum use of time, money, and material resources; identifies new prospects and proposes to middle management for approval to expand the base of potential convention and trade show business; participates in local, regional & national sales missions to promote the City and take advantage of sales contact opportunities; assists and makes sales presentations effectively and in a professional manner; serves as a liaison with hoteliers and industry providers to keep abreast of changes and maintain good working relations; accurately prepares monthly reports and other documents as needed in a timely and efficient manner; performs extensive market research/sales on prospective groups in convention and trade show industry targeting, but not limited to, new convention center business in niche markets; proficient in database applications as to utilize maximum software potential.
Preferences Familiarity with hospitality/meeting industry and its terminology; experience equivalent to 5 years background in sales/service for a convention bureau, convention center, hotel or attraction; knowledge of sales and marketing principles; strong sales & customer service skills, organization/coordination skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; microcomputer proficiency with Microsoft software and Event Business Management System preferred (Word,Excel, Publisher & EBMS); exceptional presentation skills (PowerPoint); familiar with DMAI & its Mint systems and reporting; proficient with internet research techniques and tools; ability to lift/move boxes/objects in a range of 5-50 lbs; and stand for extended period of time as needed with regards to direct sales efforts.
